In a suprise twist, Eric Bernotas and Katie Uhlaendar won the 2006/2007 US National Championships, an outcome that has not occurred in at least 12 months. On becoming 4-time National Champions, neither athlete had much to say, as they both high-tailed it out of the start house in preparation for their 64-hour flight to Nagano.

In second place for the men was ex-Olympian and current FIBT world cup leader Zach Lund, who had the fastest downtime of the day (51.00). Lake Placid track record holder Matt Antoine finished in third, as his arm was not quite long enough to break the timing eye for the silver. Chris Hedquist, despite not quite being ready for “the big show”, jumped 4 spots for a 6th place finish, just behind John “Crooklyn” Daly, and Adam Donahoo.
On the women’s side, 2005 World Cup Champion Noelle Pikus placed second, while the homeless Rebecca Sorensen silenced her critics with a bronze medal performance. Rounding out the top 6 were Courtney Yamada, Annie O’Shea, and Keslie Tomlinson.
In related news, Kyle Tress pushed a 4.65 and lost by 2.5 seconds. He could not be reached for comment.
